We had the first IAT 410 lecture last Friday. As a CS student, I didn't know anyone in the class and the prof said we should form groups by Monday and have a game proposal by Thursday. It seemed kind of rushed and seemed like a there wasn't much time to get things started. I looked at the group forming channel in the class server on Discord and there was a group who was looking for a programmer so I mentioned I am comfortable with programming and already have experience with Unity as they didn't have much experience.

I joined their Discord group and asked them what they are comfortable with and what they would like to work on. I said I could do some modelling if needed along the programming. Michelle wanted to do graphics, art assets and maybe level design. Ray wanted to do some coding, animation, modelling, storytelling, character design. Jason wanted to do narrative, setting up game rules and mechanics, and modelling if needed.

We came up with some roles and put emojis beside them on which roles we'd like to do. These were the results:

Game Designer - Michelle

Level Designer - Me

Visual Designer / Game Assets - Ray & Michelle

Game Programmer - Me & Ray

Team Manager - Jason

Things were shuffled around a bit and no one had their name beside Level Designer. I said I could do it. I will probably ask for help if I need assistance with level design and doing both requires too much time. Will see how much Ray wants to pick up of the programming.

On Discord some game game genres suggested were:

1. Food/Supply Delivery

2. Zombies XD

3. Rescue Games

4. Time Survival Missions

5. RPG game

I suggested 1) a Beat Em Up- Street Soccer game which was well received, and another game 2) were you sneak around and steal packages, instead of the Supply Delivery idea. As Ray called it, a "Porch Theft Simulator".

After voting we decided to make an RPG game. I was thinking something like Magicka where you can combine different elements together to make different spells, Ray suggested something like Gauntlet. It seems Michelle is more comfortable with 2d art, so we were thinking of creating a 2d game. I also suggested Blasphemous, which is a dark Souls-esque 2d that I really like.

We had a meeting on Tuesday to fill out and submit the team contract. We talked about some ideas and seems like we will probably have a game with 3 levels each with a mini boss and boss. We were thinking the mini bosses would give the player abilities after defeating them which can be used to beat the boss after. I suggested the small trash mobs can give "souls" or some other currency with a different name which the players can farm the trash mobs and use to upgrade their stats and skills. Another suggestion I made was killing the main bosses can drop something like a heart container like in Legend of Zelda. Someone else suggested the boss could drop their weapon and be used by the player. We didn't come up with anything concrete yet and have started a game proposal document which is still in progress.
